Hugo Marin gets the F-ONE spotlight in this edit! Since he joined the F-ONE team, Hugo has never stopped challenging himself. After early beginnings in kitesurfing, he is now amongst the world’s elite in wing foiling after finishing third in the 2021 GWA Wingfoil Tour in both race and surf-freestyle. Seemingly, the sky’s the limit for the 20-year-old Frenchman.

“My first time on the water. I was nine years old and it was in Le Morne, Mauritius. I took a kite lesson in that lagoon, but there were squalls that day and the wind was therefore gusty. I don’t think I really enjoyed this session, but it was my debut in kitesurfing on the water. I am very lucky to have started in Mauritius anyway!

I live near Montpellier in southern France, and I ride on the same spots as Raphal and the whole F-ONE team. I’ve been part of the team for a little over a year now. I’m super happy; it’s like a dream come true after more than three years of hard work on the water!

At the beginning, I started wing foiling to be able to connect waves more quickly. My first wish was to surf as many waves and swells as possible in one session. Its still the same today, only the sport has evolved a lot. Now, I also enjoy doing freestyle in the waves and going fast. After strapless kitesurfing, I found a new way to ride the waves and it’s so much fun!

I want to push wing foiling towards wave surfing. I think it has a huge potential, especially in freeriding sessions but also in competition. Once in the air, you can catch as many waves as you want and fully make the most of each of them every time. Besides, I want to help develop wing foiling gear. My passion is above all to be on the water, but Id love to contribute to the improvement and growth of the sport that way as well.” – Hugo Marin
