The Whanganui River on the north island of New Zealand is a special place. It is the only river in the world with human rights and has long been sacred to the Maori. Peoplecome from around the world to canoe the 60 mile wilderness section with its placid rapids and towering cliffs verdant in ferns. Huts managed by the New Zealand Department of Conservation offer shelter, and a traditional Maori greeting is a warm way to enter the river. Conal Hearps and Paul Clark traveled the river on paddle boards as a SUP-support trip. What a great way to experience such a magical place. Hala!
