Who’s going to try this over the weekend?
This move, coming from windsurfing, is probably one of the first you will be able to try once you know how to jump on the flat. The Flaka doesn’t require tons technique but a good coordination of each move to be done perfectly.
Flaka
– First of all, as with any aerial maneuver, you’re going to need good speed. Then, start off this maneuver is going to be the same as for a basic jump.
– This trick can be done on the flat. However, finding a section or a chop will accentuate the pop when you start the jump and give you more time to perform each move.
– Once on the ramp, bend your knees and pump your back foot to accentuate the pop and get the Board off the water.
– When the Foil is out of the water, place your Wing slightly back, tuck it in, and swivel the Board upwind with a kick with your back foot to rotate the Board 180°.
– Your Wing is in umbrella position. Keep your eye on the landing area.
– For landing, try to land in a controlled nose dive. This will limit the risk of breakage that a flat landing could cause. Your Wing should still be in umbrella position.
– Once back in the water, the upper body continues the rotation. To increase the rotation and get back to leeward, rotate the Wing quickly to put it back in front of you, downwind. This will also allow you to reposition your Board and get out of the water more easily. All you’ll have to do is pump the Wing in to get out of the water.
